Insight of the Month

Dear Friends,

This month's insight explores large and small ways to honor your dreams – even when you're busy, stressed or short on time. I encourage you take this insight to heart; at this point in history dream-based forward movement is more important than ever.

I have exciting news: My book Embrace Your Brilliance has a release date! It will available on November 16. There will be more details to follow in the November newsletter.

My best to you!
Claudette

Honor the Dream

When clients recount their dreams, they often feel like they face daunting obstacles to achieving them. Sometimes life circumstances do make it more challenging for us to focus, take action or move toward our dreams.  Fortunately, you can honor your dream by taking small steps. Consider these tips for turning your dreams into reality:

  1. Believe it's possible. You must have at least an inkling of belief that your dream or some aspect of it is possible. To be clear: believing in possibility is not the same as knowing how you're going to reach your dream or even the next three steps. It's simply believing that some way, somehow, at some point, your dream can come true.

  2. Move it forward to keep it alive. Time and time again, people say to me, "I just don't have time right now. I'm going to focus on my dream when my son goes to college or when I have a better paying job or when stars align just perfectly." For most of us, these are  excuses. If you look closely, you will find ways to take baby steps toward your dream, even if it's only spending 15 minutes per week on it. Small steps are valuable.

  3. Put your dream on your priority list. Make your dream a priority, even if you can only devote a few minutes per week to it. My friend Shelly wants to be a nurse midwife. When she thinks about that dream, it can seem overwhelming and very far into the future. Instead of dwelling on the overwhelm, though, she signed up for prerequisite courses at a local college. By taking that step, Shelly honors her dream, believes it's possible and makes it a priority in her life.

  4. Focus on positivity. Just like intention, positivity is an incredibly powerful tool. Here's an experiment to try: Identify a dream and think about it from a positive perspective and then a negative one.  How do you feel? What actions are you inclined to take from a positive perspective? What actions does the negative perspective propel you toward?

What's your dream?

Useful Resources

  • Excuses Be Gone by Wayne Dyer. Dr. Dyer's latest book reveals how to change the self-defeating thinking patterns that hold us back from living our best. So often, it is our thought process that dictates our choices, decisions and actions. This book is a handy guide to changing those patterns that don't serve us.

  • How the Mighty Fall by Jim Collins. Collins wrote the well-known business books Good to Great and Built to Last. His newest book examines the five stages of business failure and how to avoid them. It's an informative and interesting read whether you own a business, work in a business or simply like business.
